Straight out of my holiday in KL, I went to Ningbo to do a meet and greet with JK's corresponding offices. Though my stay was short, it was a good experience.
Ningbo has a population of 4 million, (the same number as the entire NZ population!) And the locals here call it a "small" city. There isn't much cultural history in this place as its economic growth and oppurtunities were the driving forces to its present state (does hurt as well that it is only 2.5 hours from Hangzhou, the richest city in China) There were lots of constructions going on everywhere! And I can't say it helps the air quality.
When I arrived into Ningbo CBD to witness the the Central Square musical water fountain. It was a pretty cool welcom too. The water level even reached 40 meters tall! The fountain was situated around these huge departmental stores. And the stores around the fountain had lights which lights up to syncronise with the music every day at 7.30pm.
My colleagues were kind enough to take me to some of their local eat outs. So I had 2 opportunities to have their local cuisine of raw crab ( ) and drunken snails If one was not careful, I think you can easily get tipsy from those snails

FOR the first time in 11 years, I have managed to organise my birthday gathering in PJ!
I decided to take the opportunity to meet ex-school mates and new friends from the Tioman trip, 1 last time at a single place before I leave Msian soil for NZ (via China).
Here are some pictures taken on the night by my enthusiatic cameraman.
Sorry, BC, I aint putting the cake pictures here... I've already put tastier looking one in my previous blog
With a total head count of 28 ppl, this is definately the biggest party I've organised. So although I might do some things differently, it was a memorable evening. I hope they all enjoyed themselves as much as I did.
Thanks to all who came.

My new baby!
|
|
After 6 weeks of negotiating, waiting and constantly having dreams about it , I finally got my "dream" car!!!!
So exciting. Burnt a big whole in my pocket but ITS WORTH IT!
I'll let you guess what car model it is you'll see what it is in the pictures anyway....
Its my first manual car too!! Its got 6 speeds!
and It just goes goes goes!!! Goes so fast.....
It cost me my first dink after 2 days of having it and first speeding ticket (ever in my 10 years of driving!) after 9 days.
Took the car for a long run (3 hours south) to Mount Maunganui after 2 weeks of owning it. Boy, the car can sure run like a whippet!!
I'm starting to get use to the short gear ratios and I'm not so intimidated by its power anymore.
Sometimes, I still forget that its a manual and I would stall at ridiculous places
I've got friends lining up to be my chauffers and driving intructors... heheh.
Was even advise that I have to "dress" up now so I look the part when I step out of the car. They are advising red tops would match very well
Anyway, will have more comic pics when I get a chance to create them.
In the meantime, do take time to enjoy drooling of my new baby.

As a farewell to Priscilla before she heads off for her OE, a Bolliwood party was organised. Most came in Indian traditional costumes or some oriental theme.
Lots of Indian snacks and music videos playing and people were gathering round the tv to copy the Indian dance moves.
Didn't manage to capture the ambience which I regret now. I'll try to get more pictures and post them as soon as I get them.
And if anyone is wondering about my costume, no, its not Indian. Its Thai, camouflage with a pashmina and a bracelet tied to the middle of my head.

Pandan Cake SUCCESS!!!
|
|
Yes! Finally... after months of trying... I finally got the technique right! Using Aunty Lilan's recipe, here are some pics of the 45 min process to making the perfect Pandan Cake.
Oh! and if you are interested in the recipe... here it is:-
PANDAN CHIFFON CAKE
Ingredients:-
7 eggs- separated
7 oz Sugar
3/4 tsp Cream of Tartar
6 oz Plain flour
2 ½ Tblsp Baking powder
½-1 tsp Pandan essence
3 oz Coconut milk/ orange juice/ water
2 oz Canola oil
Prep using aluminium springform cake tin 25 cm/ ring cake tin (do not use non-stick pan)
Method:-
• Heat oven at 175 C.
Mixture A
1) Beat the egg whites till clear and frothy.
2) Add ½ sugar and cream of Tartar.
3) Beat the eggs until stiff. (This will take around 7-10 mins/ until mixture is white and sticky like shaving cream)
Mixture B
1) Mix the egg yolks, sugar, pandan essence and (sifted) flour & baking powder.
2) When well mixed (smooth), pour in coconut milk/ water/ orange juice and canola oil.
• Add Mixture B into A in two batches. “Cut” the mixture in between batches.
• Combine mixture gently (light movements) using wooden/ metal spoon and not for too long (otherwise cake will loose its airiness).
• Pour mixture into 25 cm tin.
• Bake in 175 C for 45 minutes.
(NB: It is not unusual for cake to rise over the pan when baking and sinks alittle closer to the end)
• When baked, stand cake for 10 mins, then turn upside down on cake rack (so that cake doesn’t sink in centre) when cooling.
• Use plastic knife to cut cake around the edges of tin.

Sound of Music pictures
|
|
As you may know, I was involved with the Sound of Music production. Stephanie, a bandmate from North Shore Youth Concert Band asked if I would like to take part in the musical which was going to be playing in Orewa (20mins North of where I lived). How could I refuse such an opportunity?!
The musical was being performed by the Orewa Centrestage Theatre Company. It is the local productions group based up north. I played the drum kit and other percussion instruments for the orchestra.
It was my first time in the music pit and it was quite an experience. It is really funny how I use to be where the children were, peeping down where the musicians played. Who would have thought that I would be in the other side looking up to their inquisitive faces.
Anyway, here are some of the pictures taken during the 2 weeks season (3rd-17th Dec 05).
